William Berisch Secretan
FRSA, MA, RDT, EATCert.
I am a UKCP accredited integrative and pluralistic psychotherapist with twenty years experience in the therapy field. I work for the NHS as principal psychotherapist, leading a highly specialist Psychology & Psychological Therapies service for adults who are considered to have severe, complex and enduring mental health problems. I also have a private practice in which I work with a wider spectrum of people experiencing everything from mental and emotional distress to major life changes as well as those who are seeking to make more meaning in their lives or gain a deeper understanding of themselves.

I provide a safe and supportive environment in which you can make positive changes in your way of being - in relation to yourself, others and the wider world. I work through a mix of verbal exploration as well as more creative and expressive mediums such as 'action methods' and visual arts. My aim in this is to support you in accessing your own innate wisdom and personal sense of direction.
My approach to psychotherapy is based on JL Moreno's philosophy of creativity and spontaneity and attempts to help people who are feeling stuck to be better able to find adequate responses to new situations or new responses to old situations. My practice is creative, integrative and relational, and is underpinned by psychodynamic, humanistic and existentialist thinking.
I trained for five years in Group & Individual Psychotherapy with the London Centre for Psychodrama, based at the Maudsley Hospital, London. I have completed trainings in Wilderness and Creative Arts Therapy, Dramatherapy, Environmental Arts Therapy and Family Interventions for People with Psychosis (accredited by the Association for Family Therapy). I am in the preliminary stages of training in Jungian psychoanalysis and analytical psychology, whilst also undertaking doctoral research at University College London into the spiritual and mystical dimensions of psychodrama psychotherapy.

Continued learning and personal development is at the heart of my practice as I believe that there is always more to understand and new directions in which to grow. As such, I remain an eternal student and am always seeking out further training and development opportunities that could help me to better support my clients. I am also committed to principles of best practice in psychotherapy and therefore remain in personal therapy myself. I have engaged in many years of both one-to-one and group psychotherapy as well as having regular clinical supervision. Further to my clinical qualifications, I hold a Fellowship with the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) - awarded for outstanding achievements in social progress and development.

Outside of my clinical practice I also love to teach. I have been a visiting lecturer at several higher education institutes both nationally and internationally. I hold the position of Director and senior trainer at The School of Environmental Arts Therapy Ltd. (SEAT) where we provide the only postgraduate certificate training in the UK for art, music and dramatherapists wishing to take their clinical practice outdoors.
